Planning

Historical Context

The City of Arts and Sciences is a modern marvel born from a vision to transform a former riverbed into a cultural and scientific landmark. Construction began in 1996, with the first building, L'Hemisfèric, opening in 1998. Designed primarily by world-renowned Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, with contributions from Félix Candela for the Oceanogràfic's unique shell-like structures, the complex stands as a powerful symbol of Valencia's forward-looking identity and its investment in culture, science, and tourism. It has since become one of the most important modern tourist destinations in Spain.

Photography Tips

  • Use a wide-angle lens to capture the immense scale of the architecture
  • The 'blue hour' right after sunset is the absolute best time for photography, when the building lights are on against the dark blue sky
  • Use the surrounding water pools for stunning reflection shots
  • For the Oceanogràfic's shark tunnel, set your camera to a higher ISO and use a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion of the fish without a flash
  • The latticework of the Umbracle creates beautiful patterns of light and shadow, perfect for portraits.

Insider Tips

  • Start your day at the Oceanogràfic and finish at the Science Museum; the aquarium gets much busier in the afternoon
  • Wear polarized sunglasses to best appreciate the architecture by cutting down the intense glare from the white surfaces and water
  • The best, unobstructed photos of the entire complex are often taken from the Monteolivete Bridge
  • If you're visiting the Science Museum with kids, head to the top floor first and work your way down
  • Download the official City of Arts and Sciences app for a map and show schedules

Architectural Masterpiece!

Booking through this site was so easy. We got the combined ticket for the Oceanogràfic and the Science Museum. The QR codes on the phone worked perfectly, and we walked right past a huge line. The buildings themselves are breathtaking, and the aquarium is world-class. A must-do in Valencia!

Great day out, but be prepared to walk!

A fantastic experience. The science museum is incredibly interactive and great for all ages. The Oceanogràfic was the highlight, especially the shark tunnel. My only advice is to wear very comfortable shoes as the complex is huge and you'll be on your feet all day. Booking online saved us at least 30 minutes at the entrance.

Unforgettable Experience

Absolutely stunning. The architecture feels like you've stepped into the future. We booked the triple pass and spent the entire day here. The Hemisfèric IMAX was a great way to cool down and watch an amazing nature documentary. Highly recommend booking in advance, the convenience is worth every penny.

Perfect for families

We visited with our two children (7 and 10) and they had the best time. The Science Museum's 'forbidden to not touch' policy is brilliant for kids. The Oceanogràfic's dolphin show was a huge hit. The whole process was smooth from booking to entry. Grazie!

Impressive but busy

The scale of this place is just mind-boggling. A true highlight of our trip to Spain. It gets very busy, especially around midday, so having skip-the-line tickets from this platform was a lifesaver. We could just scan our phones and go. The aquarium is definitely the star attraction.

Stunning at night too!

We visited during the day but also came back in the evening just to see the buildings lit up. It's magical. Our tickets were for the Science Museum and Hemisfèric. Both were fantastic and educational. The booking platform was user-friendly and provided all the information we needed.

A Modern Wonder

As someone who appreciates architecture, this was a dream. The design by Calatrava is genius. The Science Museum had many interesting exhibits. I recommend planning your day and booking the correct ticket combination online, as doing it at the venue can be confusing. The online process was very clear.

Vale a pena!

Incrível! Worth every cent. The Oceanogràfic is one of the best aquariums I have ever visited. The different ecosystems are so well done. We booked our combo ticket a month in advance and had zero issues. It was the highlight of our time in Valencia.
